In the Portuguese town Curia you can find a thermal park with the same applicable name. It is about 14 ha in size. The Romans already knew it and enjoyed it. Only around 1865 it was rediscovered and re-exploited. Part of the buildings that were subsequently placed has Art Nouveau features. In its hightime days between 1920 and 1950, this was the place to be for combating ailments such as metabolic and endocrine diseases, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, hypertension, skin diseases and rheumatic diseases. To this end, treatments were applied with the water containing calcium and magnesium. For the relaxation there was a cinema, the strolling park, rowing ponds, a tea room and ... a casino.
In the second half of the 20th century, there was no need for this whole package of activities, and it was in decline, but one went through. And in the last decades one has joined the wellness culture. In Curia this has led to noticeable things like a lighting system from the beginning of the electricity running through the park (and it has to stay like that! ) There's a beautiful hotel façade including Art Nouveau mascarons, but behind it, just outside the sightfield, the tooth of time is visible
